Univision on Youtube 09/15/2009
Univision, leading Spanish-language program company in the U.S., has just signed an agreement with YouTube in which they will feature full-lenght programs on its site. This is an attempt of a movement towards offering its audience more professional content, rather than the user-created videos through which it became popular.
So, there you have it! We will see full-lenght programs as well as celebrity interviews and news stories through the leading video website. YouTube executives have said the Hispanic market is growing every day, thus the huge demand for Spanish content on the site.
This is great! It is another step towards becoming more respected and integrated in the community. I am no psychic, but this will go far, trust me. There is a lot out there that will be seen with this new agreement.
Adios!
Host of late night show 09/15/2009
You may recognize George Lopez from the George Lopez show in Nickolodeon. This time, George Lopez has managed to become the first Latino to get a major gig on late night TV. Everyone is enjoying his late night talk show, which until now has brough forward many messages of diversion and inclusion.
Also, his lineup of guests has been very diverse. It has included: Carlos Santana, Eva Longoria, Ellen, Marc Anthony and Jamie Foxx.
Some of the audience has argued that Lopez sometimes relies on ethnic jokes and somehow they don’t seem to work that well.
Nevertheless, we are cheering for him and hope that his show turns into a huge success.
Eva Longoria Parker will be honored 09/15/2009
Besides looking fabulous at the Latin Grammys and having the delightful opportunity of presenting the award for Record of the Year with Alejandro Sanz (which by the way was one by the one and only Calle 13, the controversial group I mentioned before), she will be honored at MALDEF 35th annual Los Angeles Awards Gala for her commitment to Latino civil rights and activism. She is also the founder of Eva’s heroes, a charity that helps developmentally disabled children. In you-story.org they mention the following:
She is an executive producer of Shine Global Inc.’s upcoming documentary, The Harvest, which sheds light on the exploitation of 500,000 child migrant farm workers in the United States. She is a dedicated supporter of many other organizations, including PADRES Contra el Cancer and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Most recently, Ms. Longoria Parker was appointed to the National Museum of the American Latino Commission which will study the potential creation of a national museum in Washington, D.C. dedicated to portraying the art, culture, and history of the Latino Community in the United States.
Keep it up Eva! The 34-year-old favorite desperate housewife will make us proud.
We have a newspaper! 09/15/2009
Good News!!
A bunch of Latino journalists just launched a new Spanish-language newspaper in New England called “El Tiempo de Boston,” which means The Boston Times in English. Read the article:
New Spanish-language Paper Launched In New England
BOSTON (AP) ― A group of Latino journalists in Massachusetts has launched a new Spanish-language weekly newspaper.
El Tiempo de Boston, or The Boston Times, began publishing the free paper last week and enters a crowded Spanish-language market where newspapers in genernal are experiencing a drop in circulation and advertising.
Maximo Torres, director of the 20,000-circulation paper, said he wanted to give the area’s growing Latino population another option among the eight or so papers already publishing.
Alberto Vasallo (vah-SAH’-yoh), publisher of the Boston-based El Mundo, said his paper has seen a 15 percent drop in advertising since last year.
U.S. Census estimates show that New England is home to close to 1 million Latinos, including about 560,000 in Massachusetts.

This is another step forward for the Latino community. Creating a newspaper aimed at Latinos can encompass all aspects of our culture, especially in Boston. Hopefully it can begin growing soon.

Mario Lopez is not only a host and sexy doctor in Nip/Tuck anymore! The Insider just revealed he wrote a children’s book with his sister Marissa. Mario Lopez is of Mexican descent and you have probably remember him from Saved by the Bell or Dancing With the Stars. Now, he has also become an author. His book is called Mud Taco! Yes, back to the tacos again. I told you…every Latin issue revolves around it.
Apparently, Mario’s faimly could not afford toys so with his vivid imagination, and sister..they made up a game called Mud Taco. They made mud tacos in their backyard and substitued lettuce for grass and had lots of fun so now they want other kids to learn about it. The book will be released soon.
Good luck!
